QUEENSLAND’S Narissa McMullen is aiming to join a select group of rising stars this week.
Beginning with the opening round at Redcliffe today, McMullen will defend her title in the Australasian Young Drivers’ Championship.
Should the reinswoman retain her ‘belt’ she will become just the third champion to successfully defend their top status.
Victorian ace John Caldow was the ground breaker after capturing the 1987 Western Australia-based series before heading to the Sunshine State to score in 1988.
Also representing the ‘Big V’, David Miles followed suit 1994 and ’95.
Miles’ first win was registered in New South Wales before taking on the Kiwis on their home ground the following year.
Last season McMullen enjoyed a home state advantage as she accrued 96 points to claim victory from New Zealand’s Dylan Ferguson on 89.
With the series once again being conducted in Queensland, McMullen hopes history can repeat itself.
