BASED on her team’s form, Tiarn McElhinney should have a reasonable spring in her step heading to Penrith tomorrow night.
‘Should’ is the operative word in that opening sentence, as McElhinney will actually be limping more than springing around the provincial circuit.
Sure McElhinney has every reason to be buoyant given her stable boasts three last start winners, but a household accident this morning has changed her strut.
“I picked up some clothing from the edge of the bed when all of a sudden I felt a thud,” McElhinney said. “There was a five kilo weight inside and it landed square on my foot.
“I made it to work, but ended up at the Medical Centre for x-rays, which revealed I’d fractured my big toe.
“So now I’ve got a moon boot on for the next week and will be hobbling around.
“Racing wise, things are terrific. It’s the first time I’ve had three last start winners in the stable, while the double in Newcastle a couple of nights ago was my first double in a few years.”
McElhinney’s quest to continue her winning streak rest with handy two-year-old Kings Castle, which will compete against his own crop.
To be driven by Declan Murphy, the son of Capt Midnight will begin from barrier two.
“He has been going better than his form reads on paper and I have been happy with his work,” McElhinney said. “He’s improved with each start and I expect a good showing from him.
“Declan is also in good form, so hopefully that’s another element towards a favourable result.”
