NOT that anyone ever doubted it.

Trainer-driver Grant Dixon just had to go out and prove it.

Champion status for Leap To Fame is now virtually assured after the star four-year-old simply toyed with Australia’s best pacers, scoring a devastating 10.6m win in tonight’s $530,000 Inter Dominion Pacing Championship Grand Final.

Leap To Fame cleared out in the home straight to beat Better Eclipse (Greg Sugars), with Swayzee and battling third in a 1:53.5 mile rate over the marathon 2680m journey.

And as excited as he was with the victory, Dixon also admitted it was a massive relief to have the final out of the way and a victory on board.

“I am so proud of him, yes, this is a dream come true,” said an emotional Dixon as he returned after the biggest win of his career.

“I am just so glad we got the job done.

“It’s been a rather tense week so I am extra pleased that we did the horse proud and got him home.”

Dixon said you get nervous when you look at the times his stable star was running, but when you are sitting behind him, he just does it so comfortably and that’s probably the best thing about sitting there behind him when he’s running times like that,” he said.

“I thought he couldn’t get beaten if we could find the front under reasonably circumstances.

“And once we did, well, he did the rest.”

Like all these big races, it did not unfold as many expected as Future Assured was able to easily find the lead when the mobile let them go.

And Trent Dawson had no hesitation handing up the lead to Leap To Fame.

That proved a headache for Cameron Hart and Swayzee, who found the pegs for a brief period but Hart chose to come off and race outside the champion and try to outstay him.

That was never an issue as Dixon released the brakes going up the back the last time and turning for home and zipped away to un unassailable lead before cruising home in what was hailed as world record time.

Better Eclipse made a mid-race move and Greg Sugars was able to slot into the one-one trail while other dangers like Nerano, became trapped four back on the pegs.

He finished well but was never going to catch the mighty Leap To Fame.

“Kevin and Kay Seymour have just been the best owners,” said Dixon.

“They’re gracious losers and super winners and they’ve waited a long time and spent a lot of money in this industry before finally getting a horse like this.

“They certainly deserve any wins that come their way.

“And this one, before a home crowd, is about as good as it gets.”
