Another futurity domination

AUSTRALIAN Pacing Gold graduates dominated yesterday’s New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge heats at Club Menangle.

Four qualifiers of the rich futurity were conducted throughout the card with APG purchases winning three.

The ‘odd one out’ – Steno – is owned by her breeder, Dianne Kelly, meaning each heat winner sold was bought via APG!

Last season’s APG Gold Bullion champion My Ultimate Byron signalled his intentions of adding another Group One to his tally by securing his heat in 1:51.9 over a mile.

My Ultimate Byron captured a semi of last year’s two-year-old edition in 1:50.9!

The gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere was joined in the winners’ circle by his Jarrod Alchin-trainer stablemate, Madrid, which covered the 1609-metre trip in 1:53.1.

A dual APG Gold Sovereign victor, Madrid is the defending Breeders’ Challenge champion.

With Cameron Hart holding the reins, the filly led throughout the $150,000 2021 Final in 1:51.9.

Mahomes rounded out the trio with his 1:54.3 performance for trainer Peter Russo.

Driven by Jack Trainor, Mahomes took his record to seven wins and a second from nine starts for the term.
