BOOM freshman Jilliby Nitro will be given a short break before being sent on another interstate campaign.

Completing a clean sweep of the Bathurst Gold Crown series last night, Jilliby Nitro is in the middle of the long trip back to trainer Marg Lee’s Terang property as this article was being written.

Once home the son of Bettors Delight will be given “a light week” ahead of the Australian Pacing Gold Series, which concludes with a $350,000 Final at Albion Park on May 11.

“As long as he comes through this trip fine and is ready to go again we will be looking at the APG series,” reinsman Jason Lee said.

“He also has the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge in June, but that too depends on how he gets through the APG runs and the trip to Queensland.

“Should all go well, those are the two main races we’ll be aiming him at.”

Showing gate speed from barrier seven, Jilliby Nitro was able to muster enough speed to cross numerous fast beginners on his inside to find the lead.

Allowed to roll along at a solid tempo, the colt strode clear during the latter stages to complete a four-metre win from Percy Bailey, with Mach Dan a head away third.

Maintaining his undefeated status from three starts, Jilliby Nitro rated a brilliant 1:53.8 over 1730 metres to slash seven-tenths of a second from College Chapel’s race record set in last year’s edition of the Group One.

“He is an exciting horse, but we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves,” Lee said. “Although he has led in his last couple, he is better when coming off the pace.

“He is versatile and can maintain high speed for a long time.”
