WESTERN fans can enjoy a traditional battle and the opportunity to back a genre based quinella at Tabcorp Park Melton on Friday night.

Both last start winners, No Apachemee and Goodboy Cowboy are set to clash in the opening race on the card.

Successful at the same venue last weekend, No Apachemee is the early favourite after drawing the ‘totem pole’ for trainer Allan McDonough.

Pleased with No Apachemee’s form and track work, McDonough is positive the son of Tomahawk can ‘scalp’ his rivals once again.

“I’m pretty confident with him,” McDonough said. “He has drawn perfectly and should lead from there.

“He is back to feeling as good as he was a couple of months ago and his work is great.”

Along with in-form rivals such as Goodboy Cowboy, McDonough is harbouring a slight doubt over No Apachemee’s ability to cover the 2240 metres.

“If there is a query over him it is the distance because he can get keen,” McDonough said. “I will change bit of gear in a bid to get him to relax a little better.

“He ran a good race over 2100 metres when second at Geelong, so he can cover the trip if he doesn’t get too fired up.”

Rating Goodboy Cowboy as the main danger, McDonough is also wary of Idealsomemagic.

Winner at Maryborough last week, Goodboy Cowboy will come from gate five, with Idealsomemagic – which was also triumphant last time around – poised to the enjoy the perfect trail from the inside of the back row.

“Goodboy Cowboy is the biggest threat, but we can claim his scalp,” McDonough said.

“Idealsomemagic is racing well and from the draw he will get a good run to the sprint lane then it’s up to us to be able to hold him off.”

HOOFNOTE: Chief Runningcloud is among the main chances in Race Three despite his second row draw.
