WELL-PERFORMED mare Shezallapples has drawn well in her quest for another feature win at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night.
Engaged in the Carousel Final, Shezallapples has received barrier five, but slots into four with the removal of the emergency.
Winner of her heat at Penrith a fortnight ago, the daughter of Sportswriter is primed to make her presence felt according to trainer David Thorn.
“I couldn’t be happier with her condition and expect her to run a good race,” Thorn said. “She pulled up well from her run in the heat, I then gave her a few easy days and she has been working well since.
“It’s up to Jimmy (Douglass, driver) to work out what he wants to do from the draw, but I think can she cross those inside her.
“This is a step up from her three starts this time in and will be a hard race, but she is going as well as she could be.”
Citing Atomic Red as the one to beat, Thorn also rates The Black Prince as a serious contender.
Successful in his qualifier, Atomic Red will begin from the outside of the front row for leading horseman Steve Turnbull.
The Black Prince, which won his heat in Bathurst, has drawn barrier seven, but moves into five with the emergency out and as a result of a scratching.
“Atomic Red will be hard to beat given the way he went in his heat,” Thorn said. “He’s gone 1:53.6 over 2300 metres.
“If he can get to the front he will take a lot of running down. The Black Prince is also in good form and will be thereabouts.”
