    TWO down, several to go!

It almost seems that elementary with exciting trotter Alpha Male following his arrogant victory at Tabcorp Park Melton just moments ago.

Having his fourth start for the term, Alpha Male captured the second Group One for his age category of the season.

Last December the Emma Stewart-trained colt annexed the first top shelf event on the calendar, the Home Grown Classic.

To be given a light week, Alpha Male will then be aimed at another major – this time the New South Wales Trotters’ Derby in Menangle on May 11.

The APG Premier Trotting Sale graduate is also eligible for the Vicbred Super Series and the Victoria Trotters’ Derby.

“I’ll give him a freshen up now before we start again,” Stewart said. “There are plenty of options for him late in the season. In fact, they are all pretty much bunched together in July and August.

“The New South Wales Derby in May is something I am considering with him.”

Partnered by Chris Alford, Alpha Male was lucky to avoid early interference from his second row draw before being send forward to find the front as the remainder of the feature became a formality.

With Alford sitting motionless in the cart, the son of Majestic Son cruised to a 34-and-a-half metre win from All Cashed Up, with Brandlo Prince two metres away third.

Rating a brilliant 1:56.4 over 1720 metres, Alpha Male extended his record to three wins and two placings from five starts for his large group of owners.

“He was lucky at the start when a few played up, but after that he just did it as he pleased,” Stewart said.

Alpha Male was purchased from 2017 the APG Premier Trotting Sale, with this year’s edition being conducted tomorrow.

“We purchased Alpha Male at the Trotting Sale as he looked like a nice type and has certainly turned out that way so far,” Stewart said.

“Everything he has done suggests he can develop into a pretty handy trotter.

“With tonight’s win it might prompt his owners to be at the Sale tomorrow looking for another one.”
