FORMER Australian mare Imprincessgemma proved too slick in winning last night’s Yonkers Raceway’s $42,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.
Sent to an immediate lead from assigned post position five by driver Joe Bongiorno, ‘Gemma’ left around Write Me a Song before a 27.4-second opening quarter-mile.
A pokey 57.1-second intermission would serve her well with 9-10 favorite Tequila Monday advanced from last.
A 27.1-second third quarter dispatched Tequila Monday as Imprincessgemma opened a length-and-three-quarter lead into the lane.
The Vicbred pacer held Write Me a Song at bay, winning by a length in 1:51.3 – a life-best effort.
Another Aussie, Glenferrie Blade, was third.
For second choice Imprincessgemma, a daughter of Village Jolt trained by Jennifer Bongiorno for co-owners Steve Manzi and Wish Me Luck Stable, it was her eighth win in 13 seasonal starts.
Imprincessgemma left Australia with 11 wins and 11 placings from 26 starts including the Group Two Vicbred Platinum Final.
