VICTORIAN squaregaiter Sparkling Success will take on the world’s best after connections accepted an invitation to race in America later this year.
Receiving the offer to contest the famed Yonkers International Trot, trainer John Meade promptly agreed to head across the equator.
As such, the gelding will be the first southern hemisphere prepared trotter to contest the feature, which carries a $US1million purse.
The International Trot is scheduled to be conducted on October 13, with a mouth watering $US500,000 to the winner.
“We are just so stoked,” Meade’s wife and co-owner Mary said. “It is very exciting and we are quite delighted to be asked.
“There is a lot of planning to do between now and when we leave, which is roughly September 15.”
Along with the obvious challenge of competing against the best from around the globe, Sparkling Success faces the arduous task of handling the long trip and different conditions.
“He has a few things to get over when he arrives there,” Meade said. “First there is the long trip, then he has to acclimatise.
“Hopefully he can take it all in his stride and be at his best on the day.
“Our son Patrick will come with us, while out son Stephen lives there and we will catch up with him.”
