FORMER Australian Major Crocker and favoured Eye Ofa Tiger As proved best during the weekend winning Yonkers Raceway’s co-featured $44,000 Open Handicaps.
Driven by Dan Dube, Major Crocker began from post position four and was handy from first-up in the weekly adult pace.
The son of Art Major engaged Caviart Luca after his seemingly-cheap early intervals of 27.3 and 57.1 seconds.
Major Crocker dashed to the front before opening a length-and-three-quarter lead on the final turn, then prevailed by that margin in 1:52.3.
Micky Gee, as the 13-10 favorite, badly gapped the winner down the backside before belated getting into second, with Caviart Luca third.
For third choice Major Crocker, a feature winner in his homeland, co-owned by trainer Rene Allard, Stephen Klunowski and Kapildeo Singh, it was his second win from nine seasonal starts.
The week’s marquee worked well for Eye Ofa Tiger As which—from post four —was the only leaver and had breaker-incited confusion behind him.
He went the distance in a season’s-best 1:55.3, holding off the bid of Will Take Charge by three-quarters of a length, with New Heaven this.
