VICBRED pacer Soho Tribeca has figured prominently on the New Zealand Cup market released by TAB today.
In Queensland to contest several features during the Winter Carnival – including tomorrow night’s Sunshine Sprint at Albion Park – Soho Tribeca is on the second line of better at $5.
Rising star local, Ultimate Machete is at the head of affairs on $4.50 for co-trainers Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen.
The power couple have captured three of the last four editions of the famous handicap.
Gritty Western Australian pacer Chicago Bull is next alongside promising Kiwi, Jacks Legend, on $7.
Chicago Bull returns to racing at Gloucester Park following a four-month break.
With Lazarus, which won the past two Cups, racing in America, the timing is right for an Aussie to secure the Shaky Isles’ biggest crown according to TAB’s Andrew Georgiou.
“With Lazarus gone to America and the open-class stocks thin in New Zealand, the Aussie raiders hold the key to this year’s New Zealand Cup,” Georgiou said. “If the big three – Soho Tribeca, Chicago Bull and Tiger Tara – go, I’ll be very surprised if an Aussie doesn’t win it.
“Soho Tribeca is a definite. He’s going over a few weeks before the Cup to prepare through the Ashburton Flying Stakes, while Gary Hall is super keen to take Chicago Bull and Kevin Pizzuto is specifically setting Tiger Tara for he after he ran so well last year.
“If they were all based in New Zealand, I think they’d be the top three favourites in the market.”
