CLASSY squaregaiter Rocknroll Baby registered a slice of history tonight.

In front of a sell-out crowd during the state’s awards function Rocknroll Baby was named South Australian Horse of the Year by Harness Racing SA.

As such the five-year-old is the first trotting mare to secure the coveted title since its inception in 1986.

In fact, only one other trotter – Lenin – has earned a position on the honour roll, which the gelding achieved in 1993.

In what was a stellar 2017/18 for the daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven, Rocknroll Baby won six Cups to also be a unanimous choice for the Trotter of the Year crown.

Trained by Greg Norman, Rocknroll Baby secured the Gramel, Hambletonian, Mount Gambier, Kapunda, Port Pirie and Kadina Cups.

Norman grabbed a second ‘gong’ when Just Rockon Bye was declared Aged Mare of the Year.

Beginning the season with a pair of wins, Just Rockon Bye won seven of her 20 starts, with five placings also to her credit.

Also a multiple Cup winner, Bettor Party was bestowed Aged Pacer of the Year honours following his eight wins and 10 placings from 22 starts for trainer Les Harding.

Bettor Party was triumphant in the Italian and Kadina Cups while also running placings in the Veterinary Surgeons, Kapunda, Port Pirie, Victor Harbor, Strathalbyn Cups as well as an eye-catching third in the Group One South Australia Cup.

A model of consistency, Bulletproof Boy is the Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding of the Year, with SA Oaks winner, Passions Delight, his filly counterpart.

Southern Cross champion Bubbles And Cheese annexed the Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year title, with Eye See Double the leader among the ‘boys’.

Kitsilano and Heezaladiesman are the Two and Three-Year-Old Trotters’ of the Year.
