NOT that alternative rock band Birds Of Tokyo needed to find some extra fans.

Yet they certainly won over a few more from harness racing when they turned up at today’s Barrier Reveal for the $2.1m TAB Eureka to be run on Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle.

Birds Of Tokyo took to the stage and gave fans a preview of what was to come on Saturday night when they are due to play after the race meeting at Menangle in what should be one of the greatest nights ever at the south-western Sydney circuit already rated the best harness track in the world.

Now also hosting the world’s richest harness race, most of the slot holders were on hand at the Museum of Contemporary Art at Sydney’s Circular Quay today to learn just what gate their horses would be coming from when the starter lets them go just after 8.45 on Saturday night.

    The draw is:

    Barrier                Horse                                Driver Odds

    1. Captain Hammerhead David Moran $31
    2. Naturally Gifted (em) $51
    3. Don Hugo (em) Jack Callaghan $101
    4. The Lost Storm Mark Pitt $4.80
    5. Encipher Luke McCarthy $23
    6. Speak The Truth Adam Sanderson $17
    7. Magician Todd Rattray $151
    8. Ripp Doug Hewitt $101
    9. Tims A Trooper (em) Rob Morris $41
    10. Heza Son Of Agun (em) Matt Craven $101
    11. Captain Ravishing Greg Sugars $12
    12. Catch A Wave Kate Gath         $3.80
    13. Leap To Fame Grant Dixon $1.80
    14. My Ultimate Ronnie Cameron Hart $71

Top class three-year-old The Lost Storm was one of the firmers following the draw.

His co-owner Justin Baker said he had been having sleepless nights and had thought about nothing but The Eureka since his horse made the field.

“I’ve been dreaming about this for such a long time,” said Baker. “I think we will really see how good The Lost Storm is on Saturday night.

“It’s been such an exciting build-up.

“We’ve always had a big opinion of this boy and have had since he was a baby. We think he’s a star.

“I think the other horses in the race are fantastic and to be the best you have to race and beat the best. I have Emma Stewart, Clayton Tonkin and Mark Pitt in my corner, so I think we’ll be just fine.

“Saturday will be super. We can’t wait.”

Captain Ravishing’s trainer Ahmed Taiba explained he had done his job and star reinsman Greg Sugars now has to do the rest.

“But the last few days have been fantastic,”  said Taiba. “When you travel, you just want your horse to settle into their environment.

“Yesterday’s trial [at Menangle] was just what we wanted.

“Greg [Sugars] asked me where I wanted to draw but really the numbers are irrelevant; we’re confident we have the horse to do the job.

“This is a dream come true and we really do have a lot of faith in our horse.”

One horseman not so excited after the draw was Cameron Hart, who will pilot one of the drifters in the market, My Ultimate Ronnie, who drew the outside of the front line.

“We probably only have one way to drive him now and that is hoping we can weave our way through,” said Hart. “He needed a good hit-out last Saturday night and hopefully they go hard and we can get over the top of them.

“It looks like it will need to be brutally run for us to make any ground, so we just hope things work out for us.

“The big guns will need to do some work to get forward easily and that might help us save some energy and hopefully finish strong.

“The build-up to this race has been amazing and the atmosphere Saturday night is going to be incredible . . . and now I just cannot wait to be a part of it.”
