REIGNING champion Bling It On will round out his title defence preparations this weekend.
Winner of last year’s Victoria Cup, Bling It On is set to return to Tabcorp Park Melton for the Grand Circuit event on October 10.
An eye-catching third when first-up from a six-month spell a fortnight ago, Bling It On is poised to head back to Club Menangle on Saturday night for his “final hit out” before being sent across the border.
Pleased with the stallion’s progress, trainer Craig Cross expects Bling It On to be a major improver.
“He did very well in his first run back and has trained on brilliantly,” Cross said. “He’ll definitely be fitter this week and with the right run will be right in the finish.
“This run will top him off nicely going into the Victoria Cup two weeks later.
“With another run under his belt and extra work in between he’ll be spot on for that.”
With John McCarthy to take the reins, Bling It On has drawn wide in barrier eight, which has seen the son of American Ideal listed at $7.50 with TAB Fixed Odds.
The nine-year-old’s stablemate King Of Swing is a $1.15 favourite from gate 11.
Cross has seven of the 10 runners in the 1609-metre event.
“King Of Swing is obviously the one to beat,” Cross said. “He’s had three runs back from a break now and is in top condition.
“He’s drawn wide again but that shouldn’t worry him.”
