Breeder ready for APG debut

IPSWICH horticulturist and hobby breeder, owner and trainer Bruce Wyborn is excited about his first foray as a vendor at the Australian Pacing Gold QLD Yearling Sale on Sunday, February 8.

Wyborn, the man who brought out the champion trotting mare Susan Is Her Name, is offering a lovely filly by the Top Ten sire A Rocknroll Dance as Lot 23.

“She’s the first one I’ve ever sold at the sales, anywhere,” Wybornsaid. “She’s a nice big filly with a good temperament.”
Being prepared by Burwood Stud, the bay filly is the first foal out of Tascott Lady, who won eight races – three in Victoria, four in Queensland and one in NSW – and $60,574 in stakes.

“Tascott Lady was my first Group 1 horse. She raced in the Breeders Crown final as a two-year-old at Melton,” Wyborn said. “I’ve put her back in foal to Captain Crunch this season.”

Tascott Lady belongs to a family renowned for producing early speed including the QSBA Breeders Classic placegetter Diabolo Duke and the NZ Sires’ Stakes, NZ Sales Classic and Caduceus Club Ladyship Stakes placegetter Forbidden Touch

Wyborn, a groundsman at Albion Park, is certainly no stranger to Group success. He bred Susan Is her Name, who has won three Group 1’s to date, and her half-sister, Margaret Jean, a Group 2 Breeders Crown champion.

“Susan Is Her Name has been back in work for three months and I expect her to go to the trials in the next few weeks,” Wyborn said. “We have got her in foal via embryo transfer to Volstead.”

Originally from Newcastle, Wyborn began his association with the sport after moving up to Queensland in 1991, helping trainer David Rodgers Snr after work.
