Busy week for talented youngster

SHOULD all go to plan, talented youngster Omnia is facing a busy week.

Fresh from winning a Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby last night, Omnia is likely to have a trial during the week ahead of next Saturday’s The Parker.

With the feature a standing start, trainer Tyson Linke will attempt to qualify Omnia from the tapes in order of having the two-year-old trotter meet the eligibility conditions.

“The Parker is a suitable race for her, except she isn’t qualified from the stand,” Linke said. “I would have trialled her today, but there wasn’t a stand, so she missed out.

“I’ll contact the racing office and see if there is a standing start trial early in the week so I can get her in The Parker.

“She will be heading for a spell after that, so if she can’t make her way into the race, she will just go for a spell earlier.

“Either way, we’re happy with what she has done in her first campaign and she’ll be given a good, long break.”

As for her maiden win, Omnia led throughout from barrier two to score by two metres from Helpisfaraway, with Magical Madge a head away third.

Driven by Michael Smith, the daughter of Volstead rated 2:05.5 over 1800 metres.

Later on the card Linke combined with Wayne Hill to capture the Southern Cross Final for four-year-old and older mares with Coco Mia.

After enjoying the perfect one-one trail from barrier six, Coco Mia completed a soft four-metre victory from Delightfull Tammy.

Laylas Princess was two metres away third in 1:58.3 over 2230 metres.

“She is such a consistent mare, which did well again,” Linke said. “She is getting up in grade now, so it’s going to get harder for her.

“I’ll probably have to have a look at the country cups with her next season.”
