Can star filly match famous dam’s feat?
CLASSY filly Steno will kick-start her attempt to match one of her famous dam’s feats tomorrow night.
Undertaking her first Victorian trip, Steno is engaged in a Breeders’ Crown in Bendigo for trainer Cameron Ross.
By Sweet Lou, the three-year-old if from star race mare Lady Waratah.
Retired with 20 wins and eight placings from 36 starts, Lady Waratah’s victories include the 2005 and ’06 Breeders’ Crown Finals.
Lady Waratah also won heats and semis during her domination of the futurity for veteran horseman Bernie Kelly.
As for Steno, which was bred and is owned by Kelly’s wife, Dianne, she has drawn to begin her quest on a positive note after drawing the pole in the last of the four qualifiers.
Third in last weekend’s Breeders’ Challenge at Club Menangle, Steno has settled in well at the Melton property managed by David Kaa.
“I’m pretty happy with the draw,” Ross said. “She certainly gets her chance from there.
“She has settled in well down here and will be ready to run another good race.
“It would be nice to see her win, but the main focus is getting her through to the next round and then into the Final.”
