WITH the breeding season fast approaching, last weekend’s northern hemisphere racing could help a few make a decision on which stallion to send their mare to.
A superstar on the racetrack, Captaintreacherous has continued his winning ways as a sire.
With his maiden crop hitting track in 2018, Captaintreacherous has been catapulted to the status of leading two-year-old sire in North America.
From 113 foals the son of ill-fated stallion Somebeachsomewhere has 82 starters for 49 record performers which have bankrolled $1,165,783.
An incredible 32 of those have won in 1:55 or faster.
At Woodbine Mohawk Park last weekend a pair of Captaintreacherous’ progeny – Captain Crunch, Captain Ahab – produced ‘statement performances’ in divisions of the Nassagaweya Stakes.
Unbeaten from three starts, Captain Crunch captured his division in 1:52 before Captain Ahab scored in 1:51.4 with Aussie reinsman Andy McCarthy in the cart.
Captaintreacherous’ daughter also shone in divisions of the Eternal Camnation Stake, with Key West and Tall Drink Hanover proving too slick.
Also driven by McCarthy, Tall Drink Hanover scored in 1:52.4, with Key West clocking the same time.
Captaintreacherous, which stands at Victorian establishment Empire Stallions, captured the 2012 Nassagaweya in 1:51.3, while Somebeachsomewhere annexed the 2007 Nassagaweya in 1:51.4.
