Chance to match champion sibling’s feat

SHE’S got a long way to go before any comparison with her famous sibling can even be considered, but Queen Kizen has her chance to match one of the former star’s feats.

From broodmare gem Queen Kenny, the filly is a half-sister to champion trotter Queen Elida.

A winner of seven Group Ones, Queen Elida registered 37 wins and 34 placings from 88 starts for earnings of $1,103,470, making her Australasia’s richest trotting mare.

Queen Elida ranks 11th as the southern hemisphere’s richest standardbred mare.

Queen Elida’s triumphs include the 2021 Victoria Trotters’ Oaks, with Queen Kizen chasing an Oaks victory on Monday.

The Brent Lilley-trained filly will head to Globe Derby on Monday to contest South Australia’s Blue Riband.

“There is only one Queen Elida, so any comparison is simply non-existent,” Lilley said. “That’s not to say we don’t hope Kizen can be every bit as good, if not better, but there’s a long way to go for that to happen.

“She is building a nice record in her own right and has the chance to add to that next week.

“She’s already had two starts in Adelaide for a win and a second against older horses, so the return to her own age should really suit her.”

To be driven by local reinsman Ryan Hryhorec, Queen Kizen will begin from barrier five over 2230 metres.

Recently-transferred to South Australian trainer Shaun Adams, Trixie shapes as the main danger from gate three.

Previously prepared by Anthnony Butt and Sonia Smith, Trixie scored in Cranbourne a fortnight ago when first-up for 11 months.

“It’s only a small, but pretty handy field,” Lilley said. “As much as I am confident in her, she, or any of them, will have to earn the win.”
