HAVING completed a successful racing comeback, Bling It On will be given the opportunity to return to the top echelon.
Thrilled with the stallion’s performance at Tabcorp Park Menangle during the weekend, trainer Craig Cross has earmarked the Victoria Cup as Bling It On’s next assignment.
The opening leg of the Grand Circuit, the Group One is scheduled to be conducted in Melton on October 12.
“We couldn’t be happier with his run,” Cross said. “His work and trial suggested he was ready to run a big race, but that was a terrific effort first-up from retirement.
“He will certainly improve from the outing, which he will need to as we head into the Victoria Cup in a fortnight.
“I won’t give him another run between now and then…just keep him ticking along at home.”
With Luke McCarthy holding the reins, Bling It On began quickly from barrier five but was unable to cross Loorrim Creek, which led from gate two.
Slotted onto the pegs to trail the pacemaker, Bling It On was angled into the clear at the top of the home straight before sprinting to a seven-and-a-half metre win from Lord Zin Zan, with Loorrim Creek four-and-a-half metres away third.
First-up since June 2018, the son of American Ideal covered the mile in a personal best 1:50.2, taking his record to 46 wins and 20 placings from 87 starts for earnings of $1,672,256.
“He used a bit of petrol early from the gate and then finished it off brilliantly which was extremely pleasing,” Cross said.
“To have him back racing and going like he did is a terrific sight to see.”
