Confident ahead of cross-border trip

CROSSING the border for tomorrow night’s Globe Derby meeting, veteran horseman Boris Devcic is quietly confident of a successful trip.

Devcic will undertake the nine-hour round trip with three pacers, with each  considered a “pretty good chance”.

Searching for his first win since nailing his opposition in Mildura last July, Le Spartacus has drawn to stand up from the pole.

Le Spartacus has had three starts from a spell, with Devcic stating the son of Betting Line has reached peak fitness.

“I’ve been happy with his starts since he got back from a break,” Devcic said. “He hasn’t had a lot of luck, but was also in need of the runs.

“He’ll be a lot fitter this week and has drawn to give them something to worry about.”

Devcic will then be represented by Mason Dixon Line, which is ready to settle any disputes from barrier one.

An eye-catching fourth a fortnight ago, Mason Dixon Line will be driven by Wayne Hill.

“I’m happy with him and the draw,” Devcic said. “He should get his chance from there.”

Midnight Pirate rounds out Devcic’s team from barrier nine.

Despite drawing the second line, Devcic rates the son of Well Said as his best chance on the card.

“He’s a very consistent type,” Devcic said. “He has three wins, two placings and two fourths from his last 10 starts.

“Although he is off the back, it is a trailing draw, so he should be able to push through into a nice position early.”
