DON’T let the name fool you because in-form pacer Friends won’t be giving away any favours at Globe Derby tonight.
Winner of his last two starts, Friends is in peak condition according to trainer Ryan Hryhorec, who predicts the son of Bettors Delight can complete a hat-trick despite drawing the outside of the front row.
“He has been racing really well this preparation with two wins and two placings from his four starts,” Hryhorec said.
“I was particularly happy with his last start when he sat outside them and won in 1:55.2 at Kapunda after working in the breeze.
“He’s pretty strong, and as he showed, he can run quick times.
“The draw isn’t the best, but I’m confident he is good enough to overcome it.”
Selecting Marty Major as the one to beat, Hryhorec also rated Wroxton Steel as a danger.
An ultra-consistent performer, Marty Major has drawn barrier four, with Wroxton Steel to come from the pole.
“Marty Major and Wroxton Steel both go well and will be hard to beat,” Hryhorec said. “The Dali Express was certainly the biggest threat, but his scratching has made it a little easier.
“Overall, they are a pretty even bunch, but Friends is the one I’d prefer to be on.”
