POPULAR pacer San Carlo has drawn to provide his followers a reason to smile at Alexandra Park tonight.
Set to contest the second round of Inter Dominion heats, the classy Victorian will begin from the pole much to the delight of co-trainer Stephen O’Donoghue.
O’Donoghue prepares San Carlo with Rebecca Bartley, who also drives the son of Mach Three.
“The sprint round is the one I was worried about as he is not a sprinter,” O’Donoghue declared.
“If he was going to draw well in one of the heats this is the one I was hoping for.
“At least from the draw he can be more than competitive in the race and possibly earn some good points.”
San Carlo was best of the Aussies during his first heat when fifth behind Ultimate Sniper, which earned the gelding nine points.
As such San Carlo is sitting equal ninth on the leaderboard.
“He did well in his first heat, but just isn’t as balanced going the opposite direction as we would like,” O’Donoghue said.
“Hopefully he will get more comfortable as the series goes on and can make his way into the Final.
“They’ve looked after us this time with the draw, now we need to make the most of it.”
With fellow Australian contender Bling It On drawn to follow San Carlo, O’Donoghue believes the veteran is a strong chance of returning to the winners’ circle.
“From what I have seen, Bling It On is the most comfortable of the Australians,” O’Donoghue said. “He only needs the right run to get back to winning form.
“He’d have to rate as the best chance of an Australian Inter Dominion win.”
