TALENTED horseman Blake Fitzpatrick had a couple of solid reasons to smile during the weekend.

Along with being given the ‘all clear’ to resume driving, Fitzpatrick captured the Golden Easter Egg at Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday.

Fitzpatrick has been absent from the cart since receiving a broken fibula after being kicked by a horse.

“I thought it was just bruised but it kept getting worse,” Fitzpatrick said. “So I had it x-rayed and it turns out it was broken.

“I’ve been told I’m good to go and will be driving at Menangle tomorrow.”

Stuck in the grandstand when the Golden Easter Egg was being conducted, Fitzpatrick was thrilled to see Rise Above This capture the feature with Jim Douglas in the cart.

Eased away from barrier seven Rise Above This settled towards the tail of the field as Brooklyns Best dashed to the lead from gate 10.

Four-wide at the top of the home straight, the daughter Bettors Delight quickly sprinted to the lead before staving off a late challenge from Gold Rocks to score by a short half-head.

No Win No Feed fought on courageously to be 11-and-a-half metres away third after racing in the ‘death seat’.

Covering the mile in 1:52.2, Rise Above This stretched her record to two wins and a third from six Australian starts for owner Flora Robson.

“She went really well and I’m very happy with her,” Fitzpatrick said. “I was confident with her as her training had been good and she’d been racing fine without luck.

“Her form line didn’t give credit to the way she has been going.

“She is quite a smart filly, has good speed and will be an improver.”

To be given a light week, the three-year-old will then be taken to Victoria for the Oaks.

Heats of the Blue Riband are scheduled to staged in Melton on April 20, with the $150,000 Final the following week.
