Everything old is new again

IT WAS a case of everything old is new again for handy trotter The Gold Standard earlier this week.

Having had a successful stint in the Elizabeth Heath stable for the bulk of last season, The Gold Standard made his return ‘debut’ for owner-trainer David Lindon at Club Menangle.

Purchasing the son of Majestic Son in late 2021, Lindon gave The Gold Standard three starts before transferring him to Heath.

Taking over the gelding’s preparation several weeks ago, Lindon was thrilled to see The Gold Standard perform at his best.

“He had a good run with Elizabeth, winning three races and running eight placings from 21 starts,” Lindon said.

“I had several things going on last year but am in a position to train him again.

“I gave him a few starts after I bought him for a win and a third, then as I said, sent him to Elizabeth where he continued to be a handy type.

“He won for her four starts ago and to see him come out and do it like he did again this week was terrific.”

Driven by Sean Grayling, The Gold Standard covered the mile in 2:01.6 to score by three-and-a-half metres from Daimyo.

The Night King was a head away third.

“I was pretty confident with him as he had been working well,” Lindon said. “At this stage I will continue to race him midweek and at the country tracks but think he can step up to Saturday night class later in the season.”
