Exciting youngster issues ominous warning
PROMISING young trotter Rainbow Jester issued an ominous warning with his win at Club Menangle yesterday.
Completing an effortless victory in a New South Wales Foundation heat, Rainbow Jester served notice he remains the one to beat in the Final.
The $25,000 decider is scheduled to be conducted around the 1400-metre circuit on June 29.
Rainbow Jester is no stranger to feature success having captured the $75,000 Nutrien Classic in Melton on April 20.
Failing to produce his best in a Foundation qualifier three weeks ago, Rainbow Jester was taken to the trials by trainer Dennis Day, who is thrilled to see the two-year-old back in the winners’ circle.
“He just didn’t have his mind on the job at his previous start and pretty much did everything wrong,” Day said. “After that I gave him a trial against older horses and he had a nice solid hi tout.
“His work since has been right on song, so I was pretty confident with him yesterday.”
With Day in the cart, Rainbow Jester was given time to settle into his stride as Monty Monte worked to the lead before racing a conservative 20 metres clear of the pack.
Taken three-wide along the back straight, Rainbow Jester sustained a strong sprint to score by nine metres from the front runner, with Oria six-and-a-half metres away third.
“That was a very nice run from him,” Day said. “I was pleased with the way he settled into his rhythm and he felt strong all the way.
“The leader raced out on his own and gave us something to chase, but as soon as I let him go he took off and I knew I had plenty of horse under me.
“He did it on his own up the straight and won with plenty up his sleeve.”
Covering the mile in 1:58.1, the son of Majestic Son took his record to an impeccable four wins from five starts for earnings of $53,476.
