AS FAR as the Maguire household is concerned, there is more than just the prizemoney up for grabs at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

Obviously collecting the lion’s share of the stakes is the main objective, but for Robin and Matt there are also bragging rights to be had.

The father and son will clash via their respective runners in one of six Southern Cross Finals on the stellar card.

Robin will be represented by Illawong Martini, while Matt has Patricia Em in the feature.

“There is no doubt bragging rights will be important,” Matt said. “I’ll be asking where did you finish if I win!

“Realistically, there is not much between them. Mine has better manners than Dad’s, so it does give her the edge at this stage.

“Ability wise, it’s a toss of the coin, but manners make all the difference.”

To be driven by top young reinsman Corey Johnson, Patricia Em has drawn to search for the lead from barrier two.

Due to her ODM status, Illawong Martini is the widest drawn of the four starters.

“My filly has taken a lot of benefit from her last two runs and is right at her peak,” Matt said, “She’s got a good draw which will hopefully get her to the front.

“Without doubt the draw has made the difference because if Dad drew inside us he’d be the one to beat, but as it stands, Bishop George is the main danger from three.”

While he is more than happy to claim bragging rights, Matt admitted his father and partner, Bernadette Page, deserve a large amount of the credit with the two-year-old daughter of Crazed.

“I had an accident and stuffed my ACL, which resulted in me having two screws put in my shoulder last Thursday,” Matt said. “Bern and the old man have been working her for me, so they do deserve a lot of the credit.

“At the end of the night though, that won’t get in the way of bragging rights.”
