A FAVOURABLE draw could be just the ‘vehicle’ The Ides Of March needs to return to the winners’ circle.

Although racing in consistent form the Shane Sanderson-trained five-year-old has been absent from the number one stall since assassinating his opponents at Albion Park on March 9.

Lodging four placings and a fourth from his last six starts, The Ides Of March gets his chance to register an overdue win from barrier four.

Pleased with the manner in which the well-named gelding is performing, Sanderson is quietly confident the The Ides Of March can notch his first win for the stable.

“It is a good draw and hopefully one we can make the most of,” Sanderson said.

“He is a funny sort of horse which maybe goes a bit better with a sit as he went better the other night at Menangle.

“From the draw we will look to go forward and hope to settle in a good position.

“If he gets cover and the right run he is capable of coming home well enough to win.”

With no major plans in mind for the son of Julius Caesar, Sanderson will continue to find suitable targets as they are programmed.

“I’ve got nothing special picked out,” Sanderson said. “He’ll just poke around on a Saturday night and see how goes.

“With a bit of luck in the right class he can pick up a win or two.”
