    GOING WELL: Pay Me Sam

IT’S no surprise to see the name Fitzpatrick loom into calculations whenever the square-gaiters race at Menangle.

And the Living Legend Paul Fitzpatrick and his two elder sons Gavin and Blake should dominate the two trotting races at Menangle this afternoon.

Indeed Paul, who these days sticks to training and leaves the driving to his sons, should go close to winning a couple of the pacing races as well.

The opening race looks to be there’s for the taking with Gavin to partner promising three-year-old Royal Glenferrie, a Bettors Delight colt who began his racing career as a pacer before switching to trotting and after four qualifying trials showing he was more than happy to continue life as a square-gaiter.

Royal Glenferrie has been listed as a $1.80 favourite after breaking through for his first win from 10 race starts, rating 1:59.9 to score at Menangle last week.

That should be the start of a big day for Paul, who also has the talented Pay Me Sam, who will start close to favouritism when Gavin takes him onto the track for Race 5, where he is ideally drawn to chase his eighth win from just 27 starts.

Paul has also employed the services of promising young reinsman and stable employee Sean Grayling to drive top chance Lexus With A View ($3.50 second favourite) in Race 6.

Part-owned by HRNSW chairman Rod Smith, Lexus With A View is chasing his first Menangle success but recent wins at Penrith and Bankstown have the gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere ready to add to his seven wins from only 22 starts.

Meanwhile Paul Fitzpatrick’s other reinsman/son, Blake, also has bright prospects as he heads for the south-western Sydney home of harness racing.

Blake has one of his lightest workloads in weeks as the stable has just one starter, Moment In The Sun ($2.25 favourite) in Race 2.

The handy mare broke in the score-up at Menangle last start, tailing out and losing all chance in the mobile event.

Yet all three of her wins in just 20 starts have been at this track and Blake will be hoping the 2300m of today’s mobile event will give her plenty of time to find her feet and return to her best and account for her six rivals.

Surprisingly, Blake has just one other drive on the Menangle program, $201 shot Rockstar Confusion, who resumes from a six-month spell for Tim McElhinney in Race 1.
