FORMER Aussie pacer Weona Sizzler made a successful first trip to the ‘adult table’ by winning last night’s $44,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway.
Pocketed from post position five for driver Jordan Stratton as Gokudo Hanover raced through intervals of 27.1, 56 and 1:24, Weona Sizzler was taken into an opening passing the three-quarters when a first-up Soho Lennon – which is also from ‘Down Under’ – backed away.
Gokudo Hanover owned a length lead into the lane, but Weona Sizzler rolled right by before widening to an easy win in 1:52.1.
Gokudo Hanover saved second with former New Zealander pacer Christen Me third.
For Weona Sizzler, a son of Bettor’s Delight, it was his eighth win in 18 seasonal starts for his co-owners trainer Rob Harmonand and Seth Rosenberg Racing.
