A FEW runs back from a spell have rising star Gods Spirit in prime condition for a visit to the winners’ circle.
Returning from a seven-month absent in early July, Gods Spirit has finished second in each of his three starts.
Pleased with the four-year-old’s progress, co-trainer Shane Tritton is positive Gods Spirit can add to his impressive record of five wins and five placings from 10 outings when he ventures to Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday night.
“He has come along really well,” Tritton said. “We’ve taken our time with him, and after three runs this time in, he is in good shape and ready to win.
“He chased home a pretty good horse in Commander Kirk a couple of weeks ago and the run has topped him off nicely.
“His work since has stepped up a notch and he’s he’ll be hard to beat.”
To be driven by Tritton’s wife and co-trainer Lauren, Gods Spirit has drawn to lead throughout from barrier four.
As such the son of Tintin In America is a $1.80 favourite in early markets.
“We’re happy with his draw and expect to make the most of it,” Tritton said.
With no major short terms plans in mind for the gelding, Tritton is hopeful Gods Spirit can develop into a Grand Circuit performer next season.
“We will continue to take out time with him and work him through the grades,” Tritton said. “If he can keep progressing like he has, we will aim him at next season’s Miracle Mile.”
