A FAVOURABLE draw has My Field Marshal in a prime position to maintain his perfect start to the season at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Winner of his three outings this term – including last week’s Fremantle Cup – My Field Marshal is set to contest the Western Australia Cup for trainer Tim Butt.
With his good fortune with barriers in Perth continuing, the son of Art Major will come from gate three.
As such TAB Fixed Odds has listed My Field Marshal as a $1.85 favourite to repeat his recent performance of leading throughout.
My Field Marshal led from barrier two in the ‘Freo’ Cup.
“You can’t complain when you get draws like this,” Butt said. “This will be his third start in Western Australia and he’s drawn five, two and three.
“Hopefully he can take full advantage of it again and finish off his trip in Perth on a winning note.”
Although the stallion won comfortably last week Butt has warned rivals My Field Marshal has improved from the outing.
“He has pulled up great,” Butt said. “I was a bit light on him between runs before the Fremantle Cup and he will improve from last week.
“His work has been great and he certainly hasn’t gone backwards put it that way!”
Rating Galactic Star as the one to beat, Butt believes the winner could simply be the entrant which receives the “softest run”.
“I think the 2936 metres might sort a few of them out,” Butt said. “I don’t believe there is a horse which can dominate and win.
“It will come down to whoever gets the softest run on the night.
“Galactic Star is building up to a big win and would have to rate as the one to beat again.”
