NEXT year’s The Allwood will undergo a change in date.
Having already altered the ‘traditional’ timeslots for key juvenile features such as the Southern Cross series, Harness Racing SA has decided to conduct the sales-based event earlier in the year.
To be staged at Globe Derby on June 8 this season, The Allwood is set to be a part of the popular South Australia Cup program next term.
As such the Group One will be run in February to help form a super SA weekend, which includes the Allwood Stud Farm SA Yearling Sale the morning after the Cup card.
“The Board is excited about The Allwood being run in conjunction with Allwood Stud Farm Yearling Sale and SA Cup in 2020,” HRSA chairman Gary Crocker said.
“The weekend promises to be a significant highlight on the SA harness racing calendar.
“The change in timing of The Allwood to February is complimentary to the other initiatives undertaken by HRSA in recent months where our most prestigious races are going to be run at far more favorable times of the year.”
This year’s Cup is scheduled for February 9, with the meeting including the SA Derby, Trotters’ Cup and Kindergarten Stake. The latter has previously been run separate from the state’s main night.
In other news from HRSA, the governing body has distributed much needed funds to several re-homing operations located within the state.
The money was raised via a grant from the SA government and from stallions’ services, generously supplied by Alabar Bloodstock, and auctioned by SA BOTRA.
`Life after Racing’ is regarded as “an important aspect of the harness racing industry” by HRSA, which remains committed to ensuring resources are applied to assist people and organisations undertaking these activities.
