CONNECTIONS of Man From Braavos hope to go one better when the in-form pacer returns to Newcastle.

Runner-up in last year’s Hunter Regional Championship, Man From Braavos is engaged in this season’s edition on Friday night.

Drawn 14 when second behind Metallica Man, Man From Braavos will begin from barrier two this time around.

As such, trainer Melanie Elder is quietly confident with the son of Mach Three.

TAB Fixed Odds echo Elder’s faith, with Man From Braavos sharing favouritism with Craftmans Charlie at $3.

Elder has every reason to expect a bold showing from Man From Braavos given the gelding has three of his last four starts, including a series heat a fortnight ago.

Craftmans Charlie, which was also triumphant during the qualifying rounds, has drawn perfectly in the pole.

Fellow heat winner, Major Reason, is in a prime position to gain the ideal trail from the inside of the second row.

“It would be fantastic if he can go one better this year,” Elder said. “He is in the right form and will go into the Final the best I can have him.

“He should be able to get into a prominent position from the draw and then hopefully make the most of it.

“Craftmans Charlie is the one to beat, but it is a decent field with a number of good chances.”
