WIN, lose or draw, rising star Kheiron is heading for a break after tonight’s Tabcorp Park Melton meeting.
Naturally trainer Peter Lane hopes it’s on a winning note!
Successful at his last four starts, Kheiron is poised to contest the Empire Stallions Vicbred Platinum Final where he has drawn to settle prominently from barrier four.
“I can’t fault him at the moment, but he is looking for a bit of a let-up,” Lane said. “He will go for a break after tonight and with a bit of luck it will be as a winner.”
Following his sabbatical Kheiron will be aimed at another Empire Stallions-sponsored event – the Vicbred Super Series.
Heats of the futurity are scheduled to be conducted on June 28, with the Group One decider set down for July 6.
“I’ll freshen him up for the Sires’, which will probably see out his season,” Lane said. “He is eligible for the Breeders’ Crown, but I haven’t made a decision on that.
“It will all come down to how well he gets through the next six or so weeks.”
As for his pending assignment, Kheiron is likely to be sent forward in search of the lead, with the tactics then up to premier reinsman Chris Alford.
“He comes off the arm really well and will be going forward from there,” Lane said. “It will be up to Chris to decide whether to take a sit or try and lead.
“He has come back a lot stronger this season and can go at the start and still find at the end.
“As a three-year-old he was a bit softer which may have been a result of him not being a good eater.
“After his spell he came back 40 to 50 kilograms heavier and now eats everything put in front of him.”
