HANDY pacer Smackwater Jack has a prime opportunity to break his recent bridesmaid status when he heads to Globe Derby tonight.
Runner-up during his last four starts, Smackwater Jack’s chance to become the bride has been aided by a favourable draw.
The son of Santanna Blue Chip will begin from barrier two, with trainer Claire Goble positive Smackwater Jack is ready to make a return to the winners’ circle.
“He has been going really well, but just finding one better on the night,” Goble said. “It is a good draw, but he doesn’t have a lot of gate speed.
“With that in mind it is hard to know where he will settle in the run.
“If he can get into a good position early and get a clear run he is going to be pretty hard to beat.”
Betting markets echo Goble’s believe, with the gelding a $2 public elect with TAB Fixed Odds.
The High Achiever is considered the main danger at $2.90.
Prepared by David Harding, The High Achiever will begin from barrier five.
“There are a few solid chances in the race,” Goble said. “It could come down to which one gets the right run.
“It will be nice if it us.”
With no major plans in mind for the seven-year-old, Goble will continue to find suitable targets.
“As long as he keeps racing well I will keep finding the best possible options and hope he can pick up a few wins,” Goble said.
