NEW Zealand youngster Ultimate Stride prevented Victorians from making a clean sweep of the national Trotter Horse of the Year awards.
Unbeaten from four Aussie starts – ironically all in Victoria – Ultimate Stride was judged Australian Two-Year-Old Trotting Colt/Gelding of the Year.
A son of former top mare One Over Kenny, Ultimate Stride’s wins include the Redwood Classic and Breeders’ Crown.
Jaxnme was the Kiwi’s filly counterpart thanks to her five wins and two placings from seven starts for trainer Russell Jack.
Dual Oaks winner Royal Charlotte was crowned Three-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year for trainer Paul Males.
Royal Charlotte was successful in the New South Wales and Victoria Oaks while also finishing third in the Group One Vicbred Super Series Final.
Dance Craze rounded out the female awards as the Trotting Mare of the Year courtesy of her seven wins and four placings from 14 starts.
Prepared by Anton Golino, Dance Craze captured the Group One Great Southern Star and three Group Threes.
Premiership winning horseman Andy Gath collected two ‘gongs’ with his stable stars Tornado Valley and Majestuoso.
Counting the Victoria Trotters’ Derby and The Holmfield among his eight wins for the term, Majestuoso was also among the placings in the Breeders’ Crown.
Enjoying a remarkable season, Tornado Valley won 11 of his 12 starts, including the four Group Ones – highlighted by the revamped Inter Dominion.
The squaregaiter also secured six Group Threes.
