‘Local’ Cup win with recent stable addition

RECENT stable addition Sea Fury provided Luke Tabone with a ‘local’ win last night.

Moving from Bacchus Marsh to Shepparton, Tabone captured the Wangaratta Pacing Cup, which was also transferred to Shepparton this season.

Sea Fury only came to be in Tabone’s possession because of the horseman’s relocation.

“I’d moved up to Shepparton without any horses and started to miss it,” Tabone explained. “I saw he was in a reduction sale and decided to buy him as I felt he was worth a crack.

“He sure has turned into a nice buy and hopefully he can keep going on with it.”

Successful in Maryborough upon debut for Tabone on February 11, Sea Fury was then an eye-catching fourth in Cranbourne.

“I was thrilled with his first run and also pleased with his next start,” Tabone said. “He had no luck from the second row in Cranbourne, but still put in a good run.

“I was pretty confident heading into last night, although the draw did give me some reservation.

“If he’d drawn better I would have been a lot more confident.”

All’s well that ends well, however, with Tabone having no reason for concern as Chris Alford drove Sea Fury a treat to account for With In Reason and Fire Marshall in 1:55.9 over 2190 metres.

“It was close at the finish, but he got there, which is what matters,” Tabone said. “That is my first country cup, so I’m thrilled .

“Now I will take him to Melton next to try and win a metro. Hopefully he will get a bit of respect after last night as it was a pretty brave effort.”
