LIFE in South Australia continues to agree with Uncle Louis.

Purchased from New Zealand before making his local debut last December, Uncle Louis has had 11 starts as a ‘Croweater’ for seven wins, three placings and a fourth.

The squaregaiter’s victories include yesterday’s Kapunda Trotters’ Cup, which has prompted trainer Paul Cavallaro to keep following the cup circuit with the son of Majestic Son.

“He hasn’t set a foot wrong since he got here,” Cavallaro said. “If anything he has gone better than we hoped.

“Yesterday’s Cup was as good as he has gone given he had to come off 30 metres.

“As long as he can remain competitive before the handicaps start getting too much he will keep going in the country cups, with Gawler the next one in a couple of weeks.”

With Cavallaro’s sister, Angela Chapman, holding the reins, Uncle Louis was settled at the tail of the field as Zigzagzoo led from three.

Gaining a three-wide trial along the back straight, Uncle Louis was forced to the extreme outside turning for home before sprinting to a metre-and-a-half win from Peakz Luck.

Barhoon was two metres away third in 2:07.6 over 2610 metres.

“It’s never easy going around a big field and I was a little concerned when he pretty much had all of them in front of him at the bell,” Cavallaro said.

“Ange got the best out of him and he finished it off very nicely.”
