Milestone moment for inspirational horseman
THERE was no time for celebrations last night, but plans to mark the occasion are on the cards.
Thanks to Staysea’s success in Young, inspirational horseman Josh Powderly registered a personal milestone – 100 training wins.
With the stable’s racetrack requirements taking precedence during the evening – and again tonight – Powderly is yet to sit back and enjoy the moment, but explained a “succulent Chinese meal” awaits.
“We didn’t get time last night, but we will go out for a Chinese feed later in the week,” Powderly said. “Chloe (wife) is taking a couple to Bathurst tonight, so the kids and I will just stay at home and have a barbeque.
“It is satisfying to get to the ton and I’m so very grateful for the help I’ve received over the years, particularly from Chloe.
“Chloe has been a part of things since my first win, so every win has been just as much her as it has me and she deserves the credit too.”
With Michael Tenardi holding the reins, Staysea led throughout from barrier two to account for Talk To Lexy and Promising Man in 2:01.8 over 1720 metres.
Owned by Tony and Narelle Turner, the daughter of Downbytheseaside broke her maiden at her sixth start.
“She trialled really well last week and her work had been good, so I was pretty confident with her,” Powderly said. “I thought if she could lead she’d be hard to beat and that’s how it turned out.
“It got close on the line, but she got there, which is what counts.
“Tony and Narelle are Young locals and there is a suitable option for her in a couple of weeks during the Cup meeting, so that’s the way we will head.”
