THERE is never a bad time to win four races at a meeting, but there is a good time to do it!
According to Greg Sugars, last night’s quartet in Shepparton fits into the latter category.
While Sugars is slaving away at the stable and track, ‘the boss’ is enjoying an early spring break.
Sugars is referring to his trainer-wife, Jess, who is holidaying in Western Australia.
“Getting four winners certainly comes in handy while Jess is away,” Sugars joked. “It helps cover her shopping expenses.
“The boss is enjoying a nice spell while I’m slaving away doing the work.”
Bookending the meeting with Illawong Class and Pippo Nien, the couple were also successful with Millah Joy and Champagne Prince.
“It was a good night for the team,” Sugars said. “Be nice if they come along more often.”
Sugars hopes the momentum can continue at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night when they contest an Alabar Home Grown Classic with promising Australian Pacing Gold purchase, Illawong Mustang.
Boasting two wins and a second from his last three starts, Illawong Mustang is midfield in betting from barrier four.
The son of Mach Three is at $14 with TAB Fixed Odds, with Soho Hamilton a $1.35 favourite from gate five.
“He is a nice little horse,” Jess said. “Greg liked him early on as a two-year-old but he needed the paddock.
“His three runs this time in have been terrific and we are very pleased with how he has come through his heat run.
“The two heat winners, Soho Hamilton and Pradason, are not drawn as well as our guy, but they are the pair to beat.”
