SATURDAY night’s draw has provided no favours for Molly Kelly in her bid to win consecutive New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge Finals.
In the midst of her title defence, Molly Kelly will contest a semi at Tabcorp Park Menangle, where she has drawn barrier nine.
The daughter of Four Starzzz Shark slots into eight with the removal of the emergency.
Successful in her heat at Wagga three weeks ago, Molly Kelly is looking to gain a berth in the Group One decider as part of her ultimate quest of retaining her crown.
Molly Kelly was too slick for her rivals in last season’s division, covering the mile in 1:55.3 to account for Love My Sister and Tassini.
“It’s not the draw you would pick, but that’s what she is up against now,” trainer Emma Stewart said. “She did well in her heat and her work since has been great.
“As far as she is concerned, she’s in great shape, now it’s just a matter of what kind of run she gets on the night.
“Hopefully she can get a good go at them, and at the very least, make her way into the Final.”
Set to begin from gate two, Love My Sister is again considered Molly Kelly’s main danger.
Love My Sister has won her last two starts, including a heat of the futurity.
“There are quite a few nice fillies in the race,” Stewart said. “Love My Sister has the draw to make her hard to beat.”
The second qualifier also has numerous in-form runners, including Black Silhouette and Goodtime Heaven.
Drawn barrier four for trainer Sam Dimarco, Black Silhouette boasts five wins and a third from her last six starts.
Goodtime Heaven, which has won six of her seven starts for trainer Courtney Slater this season, has gate 10, but moves into eight after the emergency come out.
