Non sale was a blessing in disguise

HOBBY trainer Jamie Egan is thankful no one was interested in purchasing Faith Full earlier this season.

After registering her third win – to go along with five seconds – from her previous nine starts, Faith Full was listed for sale, but to Egan’s surprise, the daughter of Majestic Son failed to attract a buyer.

So Egan continued to race the mare, which notched a second and three wins from her following four outings before the ‘for sale’ tag was removed.

“She was a bargain buy in the first place, then as she became an in-form mare, I decide it was the right time to sell her,” Egan explained. “I had a few enquiries, but no one wanted to buy her.

“Then she kept winning and I thought, I can’t let her go now, so I took her off the market.

“She’s had another half a dozen starts since then for three wins, including the biggest yesterday.”

Faith Full’s “biggest” success came in the Horsham Trotters’ Cup when reined to perfection by James Herbertson.

Caught wide from her front row draw, Faith Full was sent forward to test the leader, Maestro, from the ‘death seat’.

Overpowering the front runner leaving the back straight, Faith Full comleted a three-metre win from El Conqueror, with Jakarta four-and-a-half metres away third.

“What a terrific win,” Egan said. “Before the race Herbie expressed his concern about the 2700 metres, but I worked her over that distance during the week and got goose bumps she went that well.

“I told him the only concern was her stepping from the stand, but he got her away nicely.

“She’s proven she can be competitive in the country cups, so moving forward, I’ll put her in next Sunday’s Gunbower Cup and we’ll see how she goes.”
