CONNECTIONS of star youngster My Ultimate Byron hope he can buck his recent trend and return to his original pattern when he heads to Club Menangle on Saturday night.
Winner of his first seven starts, My Ultimate Byron has been runner-up during his last four outings, including a New South Wales Derby heat last weekend.
Set to contest the Final at the world class venue, trainer Jarrod Alchin stated it is obviously the ideal time for the Group One winning Australian Pacing Gold purchase to find winning form.
“I would have liked to see him keep winning, but I haven’t been disappointed with his runs,” Alchin said.
“He has gone well on each occasion and still given his best under varying circumstances.
“If there is a time for him to break that bridesmaid status of late though, it is Saturday night.
“This will be the toughest test he has had, but I’ve got no doubt he is capable of success.”
Although drawn barrier three My Ultimate Byron slots into two with the removal of the emergency.
TAB Fixed Odds have the son of Somebeachsomewhere listed as a $7 third elect, with Leap To Fame the $2.40 favourite from gate eight.
Prepared by Queensland horseman Grant Dixon, Leap To Fame has won his two starts this season, including his Blue Riband heat.
Dixon also trained Tims A Trooper to capture his qualifier.
“Leap To Fame is the one to beat,” Alchin said. “He seems like a very impressive type.
“I’ll be going forward early, but he doesn’t need to lead to win…in fact, he works even better from behind on the training track.”
