LAST night’s heat win has Moonshine Linda on target to join an elite group of trotters.
Successful in a Vicbred qualifier, the Gavin Lang-trained mare is aiming for a clean sweep of the three age group Finals.
Winner of the two-year-old division when prepared by her owner Neville Pangrazio, Moonshine Linda then secured the following season’s decider under Lang’s care.
Only four squaregaiters have completed a clean sweep since the futurity’s inception in 1984.
Table Card was the ground breaker in 1987, ‘88 and ’89 followed by Noopy Kiosk in 1995, ‘96 and ’97.
In 2012 a separate division for members of the ‘fairer sex’ was introduced with Spidergirl making the series her own in 2012, ’13 and ‘14.
Claudys Princess, driven by Lang, followed suit in 2013, 14 and 15.
“She has done very well in the series so far and with a bit of luck that will continue to be the case in the Final,” Pangrazio said.
“Earlier in the season when I was training her she was going well, but just not getting to her best and the plan was always to send her back to Gavin for this series and the Breeders’ Crown.
“Not only is Gavin a master trainer, with him she has the advantage of working with other horses which has helped her.”
With Lang in the cart during her latest win, Moonshine Linda led throughout from barrier two to register a soft 14-and-a-half metre win from Pretty Majestic, with Bullion Lady 10-and-a-half metres away third.
Rating 2:01.9 over 2180 metres, the daughter of Majestic Son was nine-tenths of a second quicker than Aleppo Jewel in the opening heat.
Trained and driven by Kerryn Manning, Aleppo Jewel also led before accounting for Lucinda Mac and Moonlight Dream.
