HAVING reached his quickest century in a season thanks to a stellar performance in Launceston last night, premier trainer Ben Yole has sights set on breaking Tasmania’s training record.

Yole owns the mantle having eclipsed the Apple Isle’s two training records in 2016/17.

Neville Webberley set the regular season mark of 118 wins in 1990/91, while Wayne Rattray won 123 races during 1988/89 which was a 13-month season.

Yole bypassed both with 124 wins – a tally he equalled in 2017/18.

This time around Yole hopes to better his record, which appears to be a formality.

“It is hard to say it was disappointing not being able to better the record last year given the good season we had, but it would have been nice to get that extra win on the board,” Yole said.

“The stable is in top form at the moment and that’s the fastest I have managed to get to 100 wins.

“With five months of the season remaining hopefully we will be able to better the record this year.”

As for his Launceston results, Yole won five races to register his third quintet and first since June 2017.

Yole was successful with Border Cross, Northview Dave, Artarama, Stuey D and Nor Westa.

“The stable is going along very well,” Yole said. “It looked like a good night when fields came out, but things have still got to go right, which they did.

“We had eight wins from the two meetings last week and are enjoying a purple patch.”
