HANDY pacer Tee Cee Bee Macray began life with his new stable the same way he finished with his old one – on a winning note!
Prepared in Victoria by Jess Tubbs, Tee Cee Bee Macray scored in Cranbourne last month before being sent interstate.
Arriving at Craig Cross’ New South Wales base a fortnight ago, the son of Ponder made a triumphant debut at Tabcorp Park Menangle last night.
“It’s a good start for the stable,” Cross said. “Jess sent him up thinking he may be a bit more comfortable on the bigger track and so far it has worked out well.
“He’s quite a nice horse, but we will tinker with his gear a little more to get him more comfortable.”
Driven by Todd McCarthy, Tee Cee Bee Macray was eased towards the tail of the field from barrier eight as Don Boston led from the pole.
Four-deep around the final bend, Tee Cee Bee Macray reached the front in the last stride to complete a half-head win from Power Of Red.
In a ‘blanket’ finish, Match In Heaven was a neck away third.
Covering the mile in 1:52.5, the gelding provided Cross with the second leg of a double following Christmas Toyboy’s 1:51.8 triumph in the previous race.
“He’s got the ability and can race through the grades,” Cross said. “He belts his knee really bad but is a lovely horse at home…he’s still not the best to steer.”
