A SHORT break is on the cards for in-form trotter Big Jack Hammer following his latest Group One success.

Completing a top shelf hat-trick with his Australian Grand Prix triumph at Tabcorp Park Melton last night, Big Jack Hammer is all but out of major options according to trainer David Aiken.

“The main races are over for a while, so I just don’t know where he will go next,” Aiken said. “Given there is not a lot on for him he will have a little freshen up while I have a look to the programs.

“At this stage I’ve got nothing in mind for him except giving him a break.”

Winner of the V L Dullard Cup in early February, Big Jack Hammer was then victorious in last week’s Trotters’ Mile in Menangle before rounding out the hat-trick in the $100,000 feature.

Driven by Aiken’s son, Josh, Big Jack Hammer settled midfield from his second row draw as Tough Monarch worked to the lead from barrier six.

Angled three-wide along the back straight, the son of The Pres was forced to the extreme outside on the final bend before sprinting to a two-metre win from Dance Craze, which produced a stellar run after galloping at the start.

Tough Monarch was four metres away third in 1:58.1 over 2240 metres.

“Everything worked out well for him from the draw,” Aiken said. “He’s been in the right spot at right time in each of the three Group One wins.

“Dance Craze galloping at the start would’ve taken that little but out of her at the finish, while we caught Tornado Valley on a bad night and was able to make the most of it all.”
