NEWS continues to improve for the Whitaker family, with young Josh being given the ‘all clear’ today.

Josh, along with his sister Lara, was rushed into intensive care following a freak accident at Redcliffe last Sunday night.

Gary and Joedy Whitaker had their lives thrust into despair when they were struck by the mobile gate’s arm as they stood behind the fence to watch the next race on the card.

In what have been described as “horrific scenes”, the Whitaker’s two children copped the brunt of the force.

Two-year-old Lara was rushed to hospital in critical condition with severe facial and internal injuries, while Josh suffered non-life threatening injuries.

To the Whitakers’ relief Josh has been dismissed from hospital this afternoon and has moved into the Ronald MacDonald House with his parents.

“We are pleased to say Joshy has been discharged and has taken up residence with us at Ronald MacDonald House,” Joedy said.

Lara’s condition remains critical, with the toddler in an induced coma, which will be the case until she undergoes her first round of facial surgery.

What has been positive results, Lara has not suffered spinal injuries as first feared.

“Our little Princess is still going well,” Joedy said. “MRI yesterday cleared her from spinal injuries.

“She will still remain in an induced coma until after her first round of facial surgery, which will hopefully be early next week.

“We have been reading your well wishes to her which she is loving. We thank everyone for their amazing support.”

Joedy has also reached out to those who may be able to donate blood as a way of thanking previous donors for their valuable gift.

“We ask everyone who can donate blood to please do so,” Joedy said. “Lara required blood transfusions on Sunday due to her blood loss, so we would love to see that replaced and more.”
